The Institute of Translation Studies deals with translation in research and education. The Institute sees itself as a place for education and scientific reflection in the field of transcultural communication and deals with the requirements that emerge in a globalised and at the same time culturally diverse society. It engages in research on different forms of translation and interpreting, on their structures and processes as well as on their cultural-historic and sociopolitical relevance. The Institute of Translation Studies at the Faculty of Afts and Humanities is seeking to appoint a
Professor (f/m) of Translation Studies
(40 hours per week; fixed-term employment for two years pursuant to §99 (1) UG (Austrian Universities Act); expected starting date now )
Research activities and focus points
The professor will represent the subject of translation studies. The holder of the post will contribute to strengthening, integrating and potentially also expanding the Institute’s research core areas. They will pursue research on an international level addressing interdisciplinary issues in at least one of the following two research fields:
• translation in science, business, and industry; or
• translation in institutions and organisations.
Teaching activities
As holder of this post you will be expected to teach interpreting and translation studies courses as well as general courses on the field of Translation Studies for both the bachelor’s and master’s programmes offered by the Institute of Translation Studies as well as relevant courses for the PhD programme of the Institute of Philosophy at the Faculty of Arts and Humanities – in accordance with the applicable curricula. Additionally, he or she is to supervise bachelor’s theses and also master’s theses in the fields of interpreting and translation studies.
Administrative tasks
As holder of the post you participate in administrative tasks of the Institute.
Requirements for employment
Completion of an appropriate university degree at a university in Austria or abroad
Habilitation or equivalent qualification in Translation Studies
Excellent scientific qualification in research and teaching for the relevant subject and profile of the professorship
Aptitude to teach at university level
Leadership skills
The candidate is expected to demonstrate his/her educational and didactic skills. Internationally recognised achievements are to be proven through publications. The applicant must have command of at least two languages offered at the Institute and be able to teach and supervise students in German. Leadership skills and maintenance of a cooperative style of leadership are expected. Ideally, the applicant also has experience in third-party fundraising, in working in research organisations and in field-specific experience outside of Austria. Finally, the applicant is expected to be versed in gender mainstreaming.
Classification
Salary scheme of the Universitäten-KV (University Collective Agreement): A1
Minimum salary
The minimum salary according to the classification scheme of the collective agreement is EUR 68.475,40 gross per year (14 monthly salaries). Salary subject to negotiation.
