The Faculty of Information and Communication Sciences at the TH Köln – University of Applied Sciences in Germany invites applications for the position of W2 professorship of English Linguistics and Translation Studies with a specialisation in technical translation (science/technology)
Your responsibilities
The successful candidate will carry out research and teach courses in the MA programmes of the Institute of Translation and Multilingual Communication in the area of English Linguistics and Translation Studies with a focus on technical translation in the fields of science and technology for the language pair English-German. In addition, the successful candidate will teach introductory and advanced courses in translation theory and practical translation in the BA programme Multilingual Communication.
The successful candidate’s research activities will strengthen the faculty’s research profile and he/she will actively apply for research grants and external funding.
The successful candidate will participate actively in the faculty’s administration and in the institute’s management and is prepared to take on responsibilities and management tasks in this context.
Your Profile
Qualified candidates must have earned a master’s degree in the field of translation or a related field and a PhD or doctorate in a relevant field. Candidates will have specialised in the area of scientific, technical, medical or IT translation in the course of their studies or acquired this expertise in the course of their professional work. Candidates must have outstanding specialised and general translation competencies for the language pair English-German and will have proven theoretical and applied expertise in these areas. In addition, candidates will possess excellent knowledge of language and translation software tools and have experience in employing these in translation practice and, ideally, also in translation teaching. Candidates will possess a solid business process competency in the management and analysis of translation processes and ideally have experience in applying machine translation in practice (e.g. pre-/post-editing). Candidates must have at least five years of professional experience in the aforementioned domains with at least three years thereof outside a university context.
Qualified candidates must have native or near-native competence in both German and English.
Ideally, candidates will have experience in the conception, planning, and teaching of courses in the education of technical translators, localisation experts, and translation technology professionals, preferably in the domains of science, technology, medicine or IT.
Qualified candidates possess the capacity to pursue their objectives and endeavours in line with the long-term goals of the university as well as the ability to develop solutions in a team context.
