‘Evolving Profiles: The Future of Translation and Interpreting Training’

​APTIS 2021 is going online! Making a virtue out of the virtual, we will increase access to the conference, while continuing to ensure the trademark dynamism and interactivity of the APTIS conference.

Please note that this conference was originally due to take place 27-28 Nov. 2020 but had to be postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Dublin City University is proud to host the 3rd Conference of the Association of Programmes in Translation and Interpreting Studies, UK and Ireland (APTIS) on 18-19 November 2021 (online).

APTIS encourages research into all aspects of translation and interpreting, and especially research that aims to inform the teaching and learning of these subjects at UK and Irish Higher Education Institutions. Previous conferences examined challenges and opportunities involved in the teaching and learning of translation and interpreting and looked to make connections between academic and non-academic settings for such efforts. The upcoming conference will look to the future and ask scholars, practitioners, and other stakeholders on these islands to come together to discuss evolving profiles of translation and interpreting training.

We invite proposals for papers, and workshops that engage largely but not exclusively with what is yet to come in the world of translation and interpreting (T&I) training. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • T&I and technology now and in the future
  • T&I and AI now and in the future
  • Developments in AVT training
  • Developments in localisation training
  • The future of accessibility in T&I programmes
  • T&I as a profession and as an academic discipline: latest advances/state of the art/future prospects
  • Building a skills base in T&I (project management, content creation, programming)
  • The importance of history to T&I training now and in the future
  • T&I and the EU in the context of Brexit and the lifting of the Irish language derogation
  • Translation and interpreting in the context of language learning
  • Ergonomic issues in T&I training

We welcome proposals from those not located in Ireland or the UK. Nevertheless, the core interest of the conference is in topics that will be relevant in British and Irish contexts.

Submission Guidelines:

APTIS invites proposals for 15-minute papers and 60-minute hands-on workshops for its 3rd Annual Conference. Submit your proposal on EasyChair (https://easychair.org/my/conference?conf=aptis2020#) by attaching a document (in PDF format) with the following information:

INDIVIDUAL PAPERS:

Title, author’s name and affiliation, email address, abstract (300 words max.), 5 keywords, author biodata (100 words max.), audiovisual requirements.

HANDS-ON WORKSHOPS:

Title, presenter’s name and affiliation, email address, abstract (400-500 words approximately, including whether any previous working knowledge or experience is expected from participants in advance, if and when applicable), 5 keywords, presenter’s biodata (100 words max.), audiovisual and software requirements.

Deadline: The new deadline for sending proposals is 30th April 2021.

Please note that if you submitted ahead of the original deadline (30th April 2021), you do not need to resubmit unless you wish to do so (e.g. based on developments in the study described in the abstract).

​Registration Fees:

Staff and students of institutions that are members of APTIS will pay no fees, but registration in advance will be required.

Non-APTIS members will pay the following fees at registration:

  • Thursday (afternoon):    €10/£8
  • Friday (full day):            €15/£13
  • Thursday and Friday:     €20/£18
