The Department of Modern Languages is looking to appoint a Teaching Fellow in Translation Studies. The position is a fixed-term appointment.
The successful candidate will have: a PhD in Translation Studies (or other relevant area of research) or be near completion of a PhD; the expertise to teach in the area specified in the job particulars; experience of teaching in a university department or equivalent; and fluent written and spoken English.
The post-holder will be expected to teach courses predominantly in Translation studies, both on the Campus-based and Distance programmes, so that the Department’s teaching objectives are met. They will also be expected to undertake administrative work in the Department. An ability to teach translation technology or audio-visual and/ or practical translation at PG level may be an advantage, as may experience as a practising translator in domains such as business, law, medicine, etc. Preference may be given to candidates with expertise in teaching online and/or blended learning approaches. Preference may also be given to candidates with ability to teach French language.
Shortlisted candidates will be invited to interview (w/c 6 Sept) at which they will be expected to make a short presentation. The presentation, which must be in English and last no more than 10-minutes, should explain how they would prepare a 50-minute introductory class on any aspect of translation theory for Postgraduate students (MA). Candidates will be asked to send a copy of the lesson plan to Sue Smith s.smith.5@bham by mid-day on the day before their interview.
