The role
The School of Modern Languages at the University of Bristol wishes to appoint a Lecturer in Translation Technology with Spanish. The post is part-time (0.55) and fixed-term for two years (1 August 2023 to 31 July 2025). Most of the teaching will be delivered online. Some campus-based teaching in Bristol is also required, especially in the autumn teaching block.
What will you be doing?
You will join an ambitious and collegial team and contribute to the delivery of our MA programmes in Translation. Key activities for the post include teaching of computer-assisted translation and of practical translation from Spanish to English. The ability to teach subtitling may be an advantage. You will count on support from the Translation team to deliver existing units and design new teaching activities as required. You will also provide pastoral support to students, set and mark coursework, and undertake teaching-related administration.
You should apply if
You have native or near-native competence in Spanish and English, a relevant degree in Translation or related discipline, advanced knowledge of computer-assisted translation, and experience with UK Higher Education. Knowledge of neural machine translation, the ability to teach subtitling, and experience with online teaching are desirable.
