Lecturer in Interpreting and Translation

Salary on appointment will be £35,333 per annum with an annual increment up to £42,155 per annum.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Lecturer to join the School of Politics, Philosophy, Language and Communication Studies to undertake research within the framework of the School’s research strategy and contribute to the teaching, assessment and module organisation on undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, providing supervision to PhD students.

The School of Politics, Philosophy, Language and Communication Studies is looking to recruit a Lecturer in Interpreting and Translation (Research and Teaching focused) within our dynamic Department of Language and Communication Studies. The Department submits to Area Studies for the REF, were top 5 in the unit of assessment in REF 2021 and have achieved strong NSS scores.

You will have the opportunity to develop your research profile which compliments existing research strengths, seeking national and international recognition. You will develop proposals to secure external funding and disseminate results through academic publications and conferences.

Teaching is a key part of this role and as such you will be expected to plan, teach and assess at undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, taking responsibility for the delivery and assessment of specific modules. This will include organising modules and developing teaching and learning materials.

We are looking for a scholar with a PhD (or equivalent) in area connected with interpreting and translation, particularly with a focus on French, and relevant teaching experience. We are particularly looking for specialism(s) in conference and public service interpreting, as well as French Translation.

You will have a track record, appropriate to experience, of high-quality publications and have produced research which has the potential to have an impact beyond academia. Experience of managing enterprise and engagement projects and evidence of successful applications for external grant income would be advantageous.

This full-time post is available on an indefinite basis starting 3 January 2024.
