The Post
The Faculty of Arts and Humanities is seeking to appoint a Lecturer (Teaching and Scholarship or Teaching and Research) at grade 7/8 in Translation and Interpreting Studies with a specialism in Mandarin Chinese. This is a 1.0 FTE, full-time open-ended appointment to enhance the growing teaching and research profile of Translation and Interpreting Studies at Stirling. The successful candidate will be able to teach in core areas including Translation Theory at both undergraduate and Masters levels, and also offer additional options in their own specialism to complement our existing offering. Given the fast-moving nature of the Translation and Interpreting sector, we would particularly welcome applications with expertise in the use of Translation and Interpreting technologies.
The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to an active and vibrant Translation and Interpreting teaching and research community at Stirling, and if applying for the T&R post, an expertise in Translation and Interpreting in relation to heritage and tourism as a research area could be beneficial. The successful candidate would also support our TNE partnerships and be available for international travel.
Description of Duties
Grade 7 – Teaching and Research
- Engage in individual and collaborative research, which aligns to the strategic direction of the University, develop a programme of research and disseminate results through regular publication in high impact journals, books and conference proceedings
- Identify appropriate sources of funding, prepare research proposals for funding bodies and manage grants awarded
- Supervise research students as required, providing direction, support and guidance
Grade 8 – Teaching & Research
- Engage in individual and collaborative research, which aligns to the strategic direction of the University, establish a distinctive programme of research and disseminate results through regular publication in high impact journals, books and conference proceedings
- Supervise research students and staff as required, providing direction, support and guidance
- Design, teach and assess a range of teaching and learning, supervision and assessment activities across undergraduate and postgraduate programmes including online/digital programmes where required
Essential Criteria
Grade 7 – Teaching and Research
Qualifications
- PhD in relevant discipline or close to successful completion
- Expertise in Mandarin
- English to native speaker standard
Knowledge, Skills & Experience
- Evidence of a developing publication record
- Credible plans for the active pursuit of external research funding
