[CFP] Translation and Interpreting Forum Olomouc 2024
“Technological turn in translator and interpreter training”
October 10–12, 2024
Since 2011, when it was held for the first time, the Translation and Interpreting Forum Olomouc has established itself as an open platform which is not limited only to an academic exchange within translation and interpreting studies research but embraces discussion with all players in the field of cross-language communication (see archive for TIFO 2022, 2019, 2017, 2014, 2012, 2011).
The 2024 conference theme “Technological turn in translator and interpreter training“ would like to adress the issues of educating and training translators/interpreters in the “Age of AI”. The featured guest speakers for TIFO 2024 are Kilian Seeber (Université de Genève) and Gary Massey (Zurich University of Applied Sciences). We welcome proposals addressing, without limitation, the following topics:
- A competent translator in the age of AI
- The role of AI in training: costs and benefits
- Shocks and shifts in the T&I market
- Aligning the use of T&I technologies in the classroom and in the field
- Leveraging the big data: LLMs, corpora, NMT, terminology management…
- Fostering critical thinking in the times of AI
- The role of traditional methods: pen and paper gone for good?
- Developing human added value in language services
- Cooperative learning in and outside the classroom
- Post-editing NMT: best practices and efficient training
- Digital literacy of trainers and trainees: match, or mismatch?
Selected papers are to be published in a peer-reviewed thematic volume. Publications from previous TIFO conferences are available here: 2022, 2019, 2017, 2014, 2012, 2011. See also OMLM Vol. 4 on TQA (in Czech).
